How to Setup Your Domain and Hosting

Before we get started, you want to think of a company name for your digital agency because this will be your domain name.

Here’s some inspiration for a few names:

  1. ‘(Your Initials) Digital’, ie. JPM Digital
  2. ‘(Your Initials) Pro’, ie. JPM Pro
  3. ‘(You & Your Partners Initials) Digital’, ie J&E Digital
  4. ‘(You & Your Partners Initials) Pro’, ie J&E Pro
  5. ‘(Street You Grew Up on) Digital’, ie Rockland Digital
  6. ‘(Street You Grew Up on) Pro’, ie Rockland Pro
  7. ‘(City You Work) Digital’, ie Laguna Beach Digital
  8. ‘(City You Work) Pro’, ie Laguna Beach Pro

As you can see, agencies usually use Digital or Pro along with a meaningful word. Once you’ve thought of a company name, you’ll be ready to register a domain name.

Head over to truhost.co. Truhost is the best web hosting company for digital agencies.

In the top right nav menu, click Web Hosting.

You’ll be given three different hosting packages. If you’re just starting out, you should go with the Basic hosting package. Go ahead and click the, Order Now button.

On the next page, you’ll be asked to register a domain name. Here is where you’ll type in your company with no spaces. So, if your company name is Thalia Digital, you should type in thaliadigital.

Truhost will check different top-level domains (.com, .net, .org) for thaliadigital to see what’s available. Once you find one that’s available, click the Add button. After that, scroll down and click Continue.

On the next page, you’ll be able to select whether you want to pay monthly or yearly. If you decide to renew your hosting yearly, Truhost will register your domain for free for the first year.

Again, if you’re just starting out and want to keep initial costs down, go with the monthly plan.

Once you’ve chosen, click the Continue button on the right hand side.

On the next page, you’ll be asked if you’d like to include any domain add-ons. I highly suggest you add ID Protection.

When you register a domain name, you need to provide an address and contact information. The problem is that this information becomes publicly available to anyone, which means spammers can get all this information about you.

Once you’ve added ID Protection, click the Continue button.

This will take you to the Cart page where you can review your order. Go ahead and click the Checkout button on the right hand side.

On the next page, you’ll need to fill out your information and credit card information. Once that’s done, click the Complete Order button at the button.

And, that’s it. You’ve successfully registered a domain and setup your web hosting. The next step is to install WordPress.

Here’s video demo, for a quick recap.
